  15. Over the past few days, I've come up against a problem with my emplant that has
  16. got me near to breaking point.
  17.  
  18. Between October and the end of December last year, I've been using a quad speed
  19. SCSI-II CD-Rom drive connected to the Emplant SCSI interface with no problems at
  20. all.
  21.  
  22. But since the end of last week, getting a CD-Rom to load is very random.
  23.  
  24. First, the Mac will claim it needs formating as it is "Not a Mac Disk", by
  25. ejecting and then reloading, the CD-Rom may either need formating again, or will
  26. show up on the desktop, but will have corrupted icons, ejecting and then
  27. reloading, may again bring up the format option, or will work first time. But
  28. mostly the CD-Rom is assumed to be a none Mac format and I am offered the option
  29. to format it.

  31. If I get as far is to have all icons up and showing, but I try and copy a group
  32. of files to the HDrive, at random a file will have a read error. By continuing
  33. the copy and then manually selecting the corrput file, it will copy with no
  34. trouble at all.

  36. But here is the real puzzler. If I REMOVE the top casing from my A4000, and then
  37. run the emplant, I have no trouble at all in loading, copying etc. from the
  38. CD-Rom drive. If I replace the case while a CD-Rom is loaded and is fully
  39. readable, it will become unusable, removing the case sometimes returns the
  40. CD-Rom to a readable status.

  42. My System is as follows, I have not added anything since late November, and the
  43. CD-Rom drive as worked perfectly with this setup until this week.

  45. A4000 with 2Mb Chip Ram & 1Mb Fast Ram on the motherboard. Kickstart v39.106.
  46. Motherboard Revision B. Buster Chip v11.
  47. CyberStorm060/50 with 14Mb Fast Ram installed.
  48. CyberVision64 with 4Mb Ram.
  49. Emplant Deluxe. Mac v5.5, System 7.5.1.

  57. I assume that the problem is connected with either the casing touching
  58. something, but I've tried to isolate all metal contacts with the case, or it is
  59. something to do with heat in or around the card. I have the CyberVision64 in the
  60. bottom Zorro slot, with the Emplant in the top slot, the backing plate for the
  61. middle Zorro slot has been remove to allow air in. The current room temperature
  62. is knocking 5 degrees C (The heating broke last night, and the boiler is in
  63. pieces [I really must get a divorce]) so I think this rules at over heating.

  65. I hope someone out there can help, by the way, I can just about get the
  66. Diagnostic to state that the Emplant works.
